What is a QME/AME?

A Medical Evaluator (QME/AME) is a physician certified by the State of California to conduct independent examinations of sick or injured workers. These evaluations are required when a dispute arises between an employee’s claimed injury and the employer. In this role, medicolegal experts review medical records, evaluate the case, and help determine appropriate treatment plans, disability ratings, and related factors. Their work ensures that injured workers receive proper care while protecting employers from inaccurate or unsupported claims.

Already an expert witness but need help?

If you are a practicing physician interested in medicolegal work but lack the time or infrastructure to manage the process, SurgicalLegal can help. We partner with surgeons to streamline medicolegal practices while preserving clinical integrity and professional standards.
